Hmm, hi guys! I never had made a fanmix in my life, but I noticed how many songs reminds me of DS9, so I just had to give it a try.
I don’t have a clever cover because I don’t know how to edit clever covers, but the track list, the reason for why a particular song makes me think about DS9 and two download links are under the cut.
Track List:

Depeche Mode - Strangelove - (LISTEN HERE)
“There’ll be times when my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life liveable
But when you think I’ve had enough
From your sea of love
I’ll take more than another riverfull
Yes, and I’ll make it all worthwhile
I’ll make your heart smile”
I see this song as a Odo/Kira song, with a Odo point of view. It remind me a lot of Odo during Behind the Lines/Favor the Bold/Sacrifice of the Angels, especially the part There’ll be times when my crimes/Will seem almost unforgivable/I give in to sin/Because you have to make this life liveable. But the entire song have Odo/Kira feelings for me.
Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You (LISTEN HERE)
“Hmm, such a thing of wonder in this crowd
I’m a stranger in this town
You’re free with me
And our eyes locked in downcast love
I sit here proud
Even now you’re undressed in your dreams with me”
Surprisingly, I have a Jadzia/Worf song. This one I imagine in Worf point of view, because everyone wants Jadzia, and he is new in DS9, but she still looks at him.
Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound Of Silence (LISTEN HERE)
“And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made
And the sign flashed out it’s warning
And the words that it was forming
And the sign said
"The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls”
And whispered in the sound of silence"
This is a song from the list of I-don’t-know-if-it-makes-sense-outside-my-head. But anyway - it makes me think about the Bajoran occupation. I actually can mentally picture an orphan child or a young woman or man, walking alone in a devasted world, and it’s this song that comes to my head.
The Smiths - Miserable Lie (LISTEN HERE)
“I know I need hardly say
How much I love your casual way
Oh, but please put your tongue away
A little higher and we’re well away
The dark nights are drawing in
And your humor is as black as them
I look at yours, you laugh at mine
And "love” is just a miserable lie
You have destroyed my flower-like life
Not once - twice
You have corrupt my innocent mind
Not once - twice"
This one is a Garak/Bashir song for me, in the point of view of Julian and with a vision a bit more… bitter and negative than usual for me. And Morrissey’s voice in this song does wonders for me.
Queen & David Bowie - Under Pressure (LISTEN HERE)
“Insanity laughs, under pressure we’re cracking
Can’t we give ourselves one more chance?
Why can’t we give love one more chance?”
This song reminds me not of a character, but an episode; “In The Cards”. It’s my soundtrack for that lovely episode.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man (LISTEN HERE)
“And be a simple kind of man
Be something you love and understand
Baby, be a simple kind of man
Won’t you do this for me, son?
If you can?”
This one always reminds me of O'Brien, because he always had this vibe of ‘simple man’ for me, something pretty rare in Trek universe. Also, Lynyrd Skynyrd is awesome.
Patti Smith - Free Money (LISTEN HERE)
“Every night before I rest my head
See those dollar bills go swirling 'round my bed.
I know they’re stolen, but I don’t feel bad.”
Another from the list of songs that I don’t know if makes sense outside my head. This one reminds me of Quark; it must be the title.
Arcade Fire - Ocean of Noise (LISTEN HERE)
“You’ve got your reasons
and me, I’ve got mine
But all the reasons I gave
were just lies
to buy myself some time”
This one is a Garak/Bashir song for me, with Garak point of view. Talking about the entire lyrics here; the first lines, In an ocean of noise, I first heard your voice/Ringing like a bell as if I had a choice, reminds me of their meeting in the Promenade, a truly 'ocean’ of voices. Now who here among us still believes in choice?/Not I reminds me very much of the way that Garak thinks; No way of knowing what any man will do/An ocean of violence between me and you reminds me of the time they live, and the violence in their lifes: Garak’s past, Dominion War, even the post war world. And the final lines, I’m gonna work it out/Cause time won’t work it out makes me think in their relationship under a better light (in other words: post canon relationship.)
The Doors - Unhappy Girl (LISTEN HERE)
“Unhappy girl,
Left all alone
Playing solitaire
Playing warden to your soul
You are locked in a prison
Of your own
devise.”
This song reminds me of Ezri during “Afterimage”. Poor dear :|
Metallica - Hero of the Day (LISTEN HERE)
“Excuse me while I tend to how I feel
These things returns to me that still seem real
Now deservingly this easy chair
But the rocking stopped by wheels of despair”
This song makes me think about Nog, and about all the young officers who ended up broken in some point during the war, while they try to collect themselves again.
The Rolling Stones - She’s A Rainbow (LISTEN HERE)
“She comes in colors everywhere;
She combs her hair
She’s like a rainbow
Coming colors in the air
Oh, everywhere”
This song makes me think about Jadzia, because she’s the sunshine and the rainbow of my Trekker life.
The Smashing Pumpkins - A Stitch In Time (LISTEN HERE)
“It’s just a stitch in time
We fit together fine
A puzzle looking for its piece
You’re perfect I don’t mind
Your travel makes you mine
Everywhere I look I see"
Oh, come on - what did you expect of me when we have a song with this title? Yep, this is a Garak/Bashir song for me, Garak point of view. Besides the lines that I posted above and that makes me think so much of them, there’s also the lines Don’t say you want too much/They’ll say you’ve had enough; it makes me think about… well, Garak’s life in a general aspect. Also, the line There’s somewhere I just gotta be always makes me think about the end of the series, when Garak needs to be on Cardassia.
The Doors - Wild Child (LISTEN HERE)
"With hunger at her heels
And freedom in her eyes
She dances on her knees
Pirate prince at her side
Staring into the hollow idol’s eye”
Yep, another The Doors song. And there’s another one in the end. I can’t help, guys, I love this band. I grew up with my brother listening The Doors and Nirvana; I ended up hating Nirvana and loving The Doors, so, it’s easy to associate any Doors song with any situation or character. Anyway, this song reminds me of pre DS9 Kira, when she was such a young girl and she had already seen so many shit in her life.
Placebo - Black-Eyed (LISTEN HERE)
“I was never grateful
That’s why I spent my days alone
I’m forever black-eyed
A product of a broken home”
Another one in the list of things that maybe doesn’t make sense outside my head. Anyway, this song makes me think about Garak; it’s not how I see him, but I think that it’s how he could see himself sometimes, especially during that shitty moments in life when you’re asking yourself what the fuck you did with your life (“Afterimage”, for example).
The Cure - Speak my Language (LISTEN HERE)
“Oh all the people here
All look the same
The little time I spend with you
We drink each other dry
Mammnnarghaassstmmetc
Speak my language!”
This is a Odo/Kira one, Odo point of view. I see it as a song after the war, when Odo returned to the Great link (Oh all the people here/All look the same) and he’s finally with his people, he is finally in home, but he’s still missing Kira.
R.E.M. - Find My River (LISTEN HERE)
“Me, my thoughts are flower strewn
Ocean storm, bayberry moon.
I have got to leave to find my way.
Watch the road and memorize
This life that pass before my eyes.
Nothing is going my way.”
This song makes me think about Sisko in the end of the series, when he is totally embracing his role as the Emissary, and with it, he is slowly realizing that his path is in another direction and that he will have to be away from his family to find it.
Morrissey - Used To Be A Sweet Boy (LISTEN HERE)
“Used to be a sweet boy
Holding so tightly
To Daddy’s hand
But that was all
In some distant land
Blazer and tie
And a big bright healthy smile
Used to make all
Of our trials worthwhile
Used to be a sweet boy
And I’m not to blame
But something went wrong”
This song makes me think about little Jules, noticing that there is something weird with him - that he’s not quite the same anymore, but he have no clue about what is wrong and why he’s not like he used to be. Sigh, all this Julian’s storyline just gives me a lot of feels.
The Doors - The Spy (LISTEN HERE)
“I’m a spy in the house of love
I know the dreams, that you’re dreamin’ on
I know the words that you love to hear
I know your deepest and secret fear
I know your deepest and secret fear
I know your deepest and secret fear
I’m a spy, I can see you, what you do, and I know.”
Some weeks ago, I saw blinkpinkinc posting it as a Garak/Bashir song and I was glad to know that I wasn’t the only one to associate this song with them :D I mean, come on, I don’t think I need to point out why this song makes me think about them.
The Cure - Love Song (LISTEN HERE)
“Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again
Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I’m alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again”
This song makes me think about Odo/Kira. Sometimes, about Garak/Bashir. I actually think that this song can be used to any couple in any fandom, but Robert Smith’s voice is so delicious here, I just had to put in this fanmix.
Joy Division - These Days (LISTEN HERE)
“Spent all my time,
learnt a killer’s art.
Took threats and abuse
'till I learned the part.”
These Days started to remind me of Garak after I read A Stitch in Time, so I just had to include it.

I absolutely loved reading your reasoning behind each song and I’m adding some of these to my playlists.
