Let me tell you why I love this space queen.

She was brave enough to give the middle finger to millennia-old customs of her race - a stiff, rigid, and proper people who place high value on traditions and just fitting in.

Stepping back for a moment, can you imagine parents refusing to allow their children to go through kahs-wan? It would never happen. If failing the test would bring shame to the family, I can’t imagine how quickly one would be exiled from society if the parents “illogically” wished to protect their children from the potential dangers and refused to allow them to participate.

While the kal-if-fee exists, I don’t see intended “property” practicing it in modern times because doing so would outcast him or her from what already is a very closed society. Vulcans seem to hold value in not rocking the boat and just blending in. After all… kaiidth!

But T’Pring basically said fuck all of that. She didn’t choose Spock and didn’t want to be tied down to him. Whether she never liked him from the beginning or grew distant because of his many years in space, it doesn’t matter. The fact is that she didn’t want to become a victim of a tradition that would forever dissatisfy her.

But she didn’t stop there. It wasn’t a “this isn’t working out so let me try to get out of this” type of deal. She legitimately MOVED ON without trying to rectify this mess she found herself in because:

1. Maybe Spock would never go through pon farr because he was half human. Why make waves if the ocean is calm?

2. Maybe she didn’t want to cause issues before the time actually came, because perhaps her family or Spock’s would interfere and force her to keep the “relationship”

Therefore, despite the expectations that she would marry Spock, she allowed herself to grow fond of Stonn before addressing the problem of being bonded to Spock. That takes some insane courage. She seriously just said, “Fuck you!” to the world. I LOVE HER.

We never get to see what drew them together, but for all we know, T’Pring and Stonn could’ve been sitting in the desert under the stars together having hand sex and then talking about the potential future they might have. I’m sure they came up with different ideas on how to go about it. I think that’s awesome.

But, after all, no one knew Kirk and McCoy would be there for the ceremony. Quick thinking allowed T’Pring to conjure up the genius idea of naming Kirk as her champion. You saw Stonn standing there with his shifty eyes and looking the Vulcan equivalent of nervous? Yeah, he thought he was gonna have to fight Spock… But sly ol’ awesome T’Pring wasn’t having any of that!

Also. This isn’t just anyone T’Pring rejected. It’s Spock, son of Sarek. The Vulcan Ambassador. His societal importance is extremely high. Spock himself is a legend (as she said herself) and even he was like, “Wtf. There’s no benefit of preferring Stonn over me. grl u cray cray!!one!1” ( or something like that ;D )

So, can you imagine… not only going against tradition and what is expected of you, but doing it when it involves such high-profile figures? Conspicuous gallantry, I tell you!

T’Pring could be cast out so hardcore by society and completely disgrace her own family name… but she decided her free will, her satisfaction, and her desire to live the way she wanted was more important than all of that. You go, space queen.

Besides. If she hadn’t issued the challenge, she would’ve actually married Spock - and wouldn’t that suck? Spock clearly wasn’t too thrilled about the bond, considering he actually said he had hoped his human half would spare him from pon farr. It would’ve put T’Pring, Spock, and Kirk all in shitty positions because none of them would have ended up happy.

SO THERE. This is why T’Pring is the most BAMF ever. Koon-ut-kal-if-fee? Nah. To her, it’s koon-ut-kal-if-fuckyou.
