→ kiss alts edited to look/sound approximately like a finished scene 💋🌈
(or: i learned about green screening this semester and i cant believe no one’s done this before??)
I’m just…. every time I see this footage…… and it’s like ‘near kiss’ or whatever….. this is a kiss. For these two, this is so much more intimate than a kiss, in fact. A kiss would be nothing in comparison to this moment. It’s pure understanding; the moment when their minds finally align in pure understanding. As far as Hannibal’s concerned, this is what he’s been yearning for since he started prodding people to kill, from what I can tell. People can say he’s curious but like Abel says, like Franklyn says, like Bedelia says- Hannibal is lonely. Hannibal has never found anyone who understood how he felt about killing being the only time he was truly himself, animal and artist all at once.
Will sees that in this moment. For Hannibal, that must be tantamount to having all his hopes and dreams come true, just for an instant. The man he loves just accepted him for who he is; embraced him, helped him, and held him close and didn’t look at him with disgust or revile him in any way.
That’s a fucking kiss.
My two cents: When you are That Deep in a scene, so connected with another, kissing them is actually almost the easy way out? Because keeping that level of connection is entirely soul destroying? And every time I had a scene that involved a tenth of that connection I lived and breathed for that other person and I was in love with the other actor for the duration, and the way Hugh looks down in the first few seconds? It is blood-letting, he lets some of the intensity bleed out because if he didn’t there would be no way in which this wouldn’t be a kiss.

How do you behave when you know the conventional honors have no value?
