Best. Cliffhanger. Resolution. Ever.

The way Jack is sizing him up, though. This is probably the moment he really, really decided “crazy, sexy bastard. I like him”.

Rose is just like

"In terms of the companions all being ‘the same’ — that’s not as phony or artistically crap a thing to say as it sounds. What is the base group of people who would run away with the Doctor? They’re all going to be a bit mad. A bit dislocated. Not happy with where they are. Are they yearning for outer space? They’re going to be people who feel like they can take on the Doctor, who’s quite an intimidating sort of person. So, they’re going to be feisty — they’re going to be all those things. He sort of defines the people who are going to travel with him. The distinction comes very much from the various actors and actresses. So, you know, they’re the ones who create the differences between them."

Steven Moffat on companions

“Rose is open, honest, heartfelt, to the point of being selfish, wonderfully selfish. Martha is clever, calm, but rarely says what she’s really thinking. Donna is blunt, precise, unfiltered, but with a big heart beneath all the banter. But we come back to what I was saying ages ago about turning characters. If Rose can be selfish, then her finest moments will come when she’s selfless. If Martha keeps quiet, then her moments of revelation - like her goodbye to the Doctor in Last of the Time Lords, or stuck with Milo and Cheen in Gridlock - make her fly. Donna is magnificently self-centred - not selfish, but she pivots everything around herself, as we all do — so when she opens up and hears the Ood song, or begs for Caecilius’ family to be saved, then she’s wonderful.”

A Rose With A Thorn

In honor of the Eighth month, here is my final tribute to the beautiful Eighth Doctor—whom I love so very, very much. Despite the traumatic circumstances of his regeneration (he woke up freezing in a morgue, for goodness’ sake!), he is bright, enthusiastic, honest, and one of the sweetest and most passionate Doctors ever. Though, at times, the pendulum too easily swings to a darker, colder nature full of snark and weary of battle. Over time he is broken by pain and loss, driven to the edge of insanity and heartbreak, until at last the Time War destroys him. Every Doctor since has had to cope with the memory of what Eight endured…and usually ends up following a similar pattern.

I’ve tried to capture that transition, from his beautiful, golden beginning, to his broken, hardened, world-weary (and much disputed) end. Lots of symbolism, besides. The butterflies because he has an actual butterfly room in his TARDIS! *___* The silhouettes in the middle are my failed attempt at portraying the Doctor and Morbius’ fall in the BigFinish audio drama “The Vengeance of Morbius”. And Gallifrey and blood because…yeah.

EIGHT NEEDS MORE LOVE, PEOPLE! More recent Doctors have stolen all the (very much deserved) attention, so this is my shoutout for Whovians to remember Eight! Do not overlook him, he is wonderful! I’m praying the 50th will have mention of him and stir the depths of the well for interest. Seriously, give Eight half a chance and he’ll run off with your heart! …and drink all your tea.
