Freddie Mercury wearing a Superman t-shirt (and John Deacon in the back) touring in support of The Game, 1980, Queen’s only album to reach #1 in the US, via queenphotos
Iâll tell you whatâs ferocious. Freddieâs comeback to Sid calling him âFreddie Platinumâ when they were recording down the hall from each other at Londonâs Wessex Studios (Queen for News of the World, Pistols for Bollocks).
Sid Vicious made the mistake one day of bursting into Queenâs control room and antagonizing their frontman. âHave you succeeded in bringing ballet to the masses, then?â he sneered. âOh, yes, Simon Ferocious,â Mercury replied. âWeâre trying our best, dear.âÂ
Then, according to Queen biographer Daniel Nester, Freddie rose from his chair and began to playfully flick the safety pins displayed on the front of Sidâs leather jacket. âTell me,â he asked, âdid you arrange these pins just so?â When Sid stepped forward in an attempt to intimidate Freddie, the singer simply pushed him backwards and inquired, âWhat are you going to do about it?â Sid immediately backed down.
