Remember that time Janeway straight up almost killed a man?
I really wish they had played this a bit differently – how the constant stress she was under drove her deeper into her dark side. I know how many people criticize Voyager for how inconsistently Janeway was written, but honestly – it makes sense, how she changed throughout the series. She’s so vibrant and optimistic and Ready to Science! in the first few seasons, and then you see her slowly sink lower and lower until she hits bottom in Equinox. And then by season 7 – even though she’s more like “herself” there’s a distance between her and the rest of the crew that we don’t see in the earlier seasons. I think it was mostly by accident, but think how amazing it would have been if it had been planned – that part of Voyager’s journey was Janeway coming to terms with who she became the second she made the decision to strand them 70K lightyears from home.
