“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”
bones: nostalgic and amused
spock: adorable as usual
jim: so in love — wait i am not supposed to do that on the bridge anymore
MCCOY: You’ll never know the things that love can drive a man to. The ecstasies, the miseries, the broken rules, the desperate chances, the glorious failures, the glorious victories. All of these things you’ll never know. Simply because the word love isn’t written into your book. […] I do wish he could forget her.
SPOCK: Forget.
Vejur was everything that Spock had ever dreamed of becoming. And yet Vejur was barren! It would never feel pain. Or joy. Or challenge. It was so completely and magnificently logical that its accumulation of knowledge was totally useless.
Spock laughed again. Then he saw Kirk’s face. He reached out weakly and found Kirk’s arm, then his hand, and took a startled Kirk’s hand in his own.
“Jim,” Spock said.
McCoy looked his astonishment at the visible and unashamed emotion on Spock’s face as he clutched Kirk’s hand.
Kirk returned the pressure and brought his other hand to cover Spock’s, holding it between both of his, signaling Spock that there was no shame in either giving or in answering fully.
“This simple feeling… “- Spock struggled for strength - ” …is so far… beyond Vejur’s comprehension…

i used to be so good at photoshop what happened
My OTP transcends universes, no biggie.
Love this scene so much :D
#okay #let me TELL you about my headcanon for this movie #so #they’re married obviously #but they’ve both been busy - especially Spock with lots of off-planet assignments #and they haven’t been spending a lot of time together #they’ve adapted but it’s not ideal #especially for Jim who gets lonely but knows Spock’s job is important and doesn’t like complaining #occasionally they’ll steal a night or two together somewhere but recently it’s been like long distance #so when Jim says ‘or the one’ he’s talking about himself #and Spock knows it which is why he reassures Jim that he’s always there #that Jim is still the most important person to him #(which is also what was going on in the book scene earlier: ‘where are you off to now’) #basically they’re in love but they’re both still very independent people on the whole #with a longstanding stable relationship that’s weathering some life changes#btw this is the first time we see Jim just waltz in on Spock meditating without so much as a by-your-leave #(the second time is in UC) #because they’re space married and that’s what marrieds do
Wow I’ve been having this kind of headcannon too. Like after TMP, they get married but because of their jobs they can’t spend a lot of time together. And then Spock dies in WOK and because Jim can’t imagine all of the lost time with Spock he gets him back. But Spock’s memories are temporarily missing so Jim’s aggravated that they have go back to square one throughout TVH. But by TFF Spock’s memories come back and their marriage is wonderful again in TUC. And THEN you can fit in that deleted scene from XI, saying how Jim wants to spend their Etrius years together, meaning that they can FINALLY spend their retirement together as a happily and peacefully married couple.
…And then Generations happened and…
…
…
Not to focus on one particular aspect of this scene…well, I guess that’s exactly what I’m doing, but, like, the fact that Kirk can just come in while Spock is meditating should provide some kind of a clue as to the level of intimacy in their relationship (if you’re one of those with doubts, that is). As indicated by past canon, Vulcan meditation is a very private and personal thing. Even in Journey To Babel, we see Amanda is the only one that is deemed appropriate to be around Sarek while he’s in meditation and even then, he’s off somewhere in the room on his own.
So the fact that Kirk can just fucking come in should mean something to people. I know it’s a little thing, I know it’s slight, but it’s stuff like this that people brush off or don’t pay attention to that can really clue one in to what’s going on here.
