“I think they have right to be mad at each other, in many ways.”
“I kind of wanted them to get together in the first season, have them be a couple, but it has gone too far away for that.”
Bryan Fuller:
“In the first season, one of the fun things was kind of laying in some references to her dating past. She was kind of like, I’m in my head too much, I don’t want to put myself out there, and when Caroline came forward and said, I really want Alana to have an affair with Margot Verger in the third season, I thought that was great.”
“So that came from her!”
Bryan Fuller:
“Yes, and we said ok, let’s look at some of the scenes we’d already done with Alana in this new context and she’s saying that she has a difficult time in relationships, that could be about her bisexuality. And that it is very difficult for bisexuals to be met with acceptance in relationships because everybody assumes that since you’re attracted to everybody, that there’s twice as many opportunities for disloyalty, but bisexuality does not mean that you’re unfaithful. So it was fascinating to sit down with her and kind of retroactively look at that character and discuss the honest exploration of this character as a bisexual and that she’s always been bisexual.”
