The analysis that no one asked for but Iām doing anyway because I want to.
Janeway: Even though sheās had dogs her whole life, Janeway is a cat. Sheās crafty, sassy, and flirty in a way that is distinctly feline. Also have you seen the way she sits in her command chair? Cat.
Chakotay: I once saw Chakotay described as aĀ ābored, oversized tomcatā and that was correct. He messes with people for fun. He flirts with Kathryn. He plays little jokes on people. He crashes shuttles with the same energy as a cat pushing a glass of water off a table.Ā
Tuvok: Cat. Wants to be alone, thinks everyone else is completely irrational. Has some murderous thoughts sometimes. Likes houseplants a little too much.Ā
Tom: Definitely a dog. He took one look at Harry Kim and decided that they were going to be best friends for life. Easily amused. Tears things apart when heās bored (like in his car holodeck program). Needs attention all the time.Ā
Harry: Probably a dog. Heās loyal, ambitious in a very positive way, and seems to benefit a lot from positive feedback. Also the level of floof to his hair in the early seasons looks puppy-soft.
BāElanna:Ā A dog that was raised by cats. She has the spatial needs of a cat, but the loyalty, bark, and need for positive feedback of a dog. Sheās had scrappy instincts trained into her though by theĀ ācat peopleāĀ she was raised around.Ā
The EMH:Ā That level of overdrama is so feline itās not even funny. Heās the cat who tries to jump on the windowsill, slips and falls, and then acts like he meant to do that.
Kes: Sheās a cat that was raised by dogs. She has a nurturing instinct that feels very much like a momma cat, but the loyalty and sociality of a dog. Sheās clever in a way that could be feline or canine.Ā
Neelix: Dog. Wants to be friends with everybody. Only bites when heās pushed too far. Very upbeat.
Seven: Cat. She likes things a certain way and will change it to the way she likes it without permission. Needs a reliable schedule and holds other people accountable to that schedule. Is actually very nice if you give her the space she needs and build trust with her.Ā
I had to draw this!!
OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE COOLEST THING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DRAWING IT I LOVE THEM!!!!!
“[Michael Piller] was always looking for the moral angle, the emotional journey, the dilemma,” Biller says. “My original draft ended with them splitting Tuvix, him saying something very Starfleet about sacrifice, and Janeway was off the hook. Michael’s note was, ‘Make him fight for his life.’”
So Biller rewrote the script with the mandate that Tuvix was a new person, an individual. Janeway would decide whether to execute him. She settles on returning Neelix and Tuvok to their original selves, and in the final minutes of the episode, after begging for his future, Tuvix is suddenly gone.
“Much like the episode itself,” Biller says, “the making of the episode had an arc. It began silly […] then turned into something dark and even profound. I mean, what could Janeway do? What would you do?” - Polygon.com
