"Doug and I had this idea of this love token of Uhuraâs coming back later in the film to help them find out where she was located. So we had this idea of a radioactive mineral. We saw the humor that Spock is basically keeping track of her! But we didnât have a name for it, so we reached out to the guys who created Memory Alpha, which is this Star Trek Wikipedia. It was an exhaustive, invaluable resource for Doug and I since we would fact-check everything, like whatâs inside of a frozen torpedo or what year the first annex vessel made its maiden voyage. And we wrote to the guys and we said âLook, we have this thing and it needs a name, and weâd like you to be part of this movie and have your name in the credits, can you name it for us?â and they came back in about two hours with a really detailed, etymological breakdown of the word VULCYA in its syllabic structure, where it was from, what part of Vulcan, how it had evolved, etc. It just goes to show how awesome Star Trek fans can be. We just wanted a name, but fine, weâll take this encyclopedia of the word and use it in the film. It was a nice way to include the fans in this 50th Anniversary. If it werenât for the fans, the show wouldâve been cancelled in its third season. Itâs been kept alive by those people."

"Star Trek is the one shining light which says, no, weâre not going to destroy ourselves. Weâre gonna continue and weâre gonna move out into the galaxy and be really handsome."

R.I.P. Anton Yelchin, who has passed away at the age of 27, AP and TMZ report:
Actor Anton Yelchin, known for his roles in “Star Trek” and “Alpha Dog,” was killed early Sunday morning after getting pinned by his own car … TMZ has learned.
Yelchin’s friend became alarmed because he was supposed to meet them hours earlier for a rehearsal. They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1 AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate.
Law enforcement tells us the engine was running when his body was discovered, and the car was in neutral. The driveway was on a fairly steep incline. It’s unclear why he got out of the car.
