That moment where you realize that Sam still feels unclean.

After hell.

After repenting.

After every fucking goddamn apology and every good act he as done and every person he has saved and every person he has loved throughout his entire existence. 

After his body is turned inside out with disease that is damaging him beyond an Angel of the Lord’s repair. 

Sam Winchester still hates himself, not an aspect of himself, not something he did, but himself. How he gets up every morning and looks at himself in the mirror and he sees a monster. Because that’s what Dean said he was. That’s what Castiel said he was. And even if they took it back it doesn’t matter. It’s out there. And Sam will never unsee it. 

This is the boy that literally saved the world.

And he looks at himself and all he sees is not. good. enough.

Never good enough.

Dirty.

Unclean.
