wait why did star trek hit peak progressiveness with ds9 and then stop. like ds9 had episodes that directly discussed race, lesbian romance, unionization (and communism), classism, had a lead character who was a terrorist and directly addressed colonialism and genocide. and then with ent i have to forget what feminism is for forty five minutes to get through an episode

tagged as: ent was heavily damaged in the way that a lot of media around 9/11 was during that time; i think it did way better in s3/s4 in showing the horrors of war and trauma; and s4 is rather unique in its format (the mini arcs with 3/4 episodes) that i thought were really engaging and entertaining; but i do think the shadow of 9/11 is a heavy force that haunts the show. especially the first seasons for being closer; it's a shame really; the potential was there; this was discussed a few times by the showrunners themselves but ds9 was the middle child between tng and voy that no one payed much; attention. it was bad because no one payed much attention and it was a terrific show way ahead of its time; BUT because no one was payed much attention they could get away with sooo much good stuff that voyager was never ever allowed to even think; about doing; no one was paying***; modern day Trek could be doing better tho. there is always room to improvement; Star Trek; DS9; Deep Space Nine; [;
