@indinajones asked me “if team torchwood were college professors what would they teach” and it turned into a whole big thing so i decided to just make it into a post.
jack: history. like, he’s way over-enthusiastic about it. he will talk your ears off about it. he has like, five degrees and is probably working on another one. most of the degrees are in ancient history in various parts of europe. he travels a lot and brings candy from all over the world to class. no one knows how he finds time to travel or keep going to school. every student who takes his class loves him. all the teachers love him. people who dont even go to the school love him.
tosh: computer science & engineering. at first she doesn’t seem to take her classes very seriously, but then she turns out to be a very harsh grader. makes a lot of jokes and always has really crazy interactive projects. she runs the school’s robotics team (they’ve won national competitions a few times, and almost always win local competitions).
owen: biology, specializing in anatomy and physiology. teaches a lot of pre-med classes. actually went to and graduated from med school but them went back to school to become a teacher. he’s one of those teachers who students would either absolutely adore or hate them… (depending on whether they passed the class lol). like he would seem super scary and he’s a really strict teacher but you’d learn a lot from him, and like if you’d ask questions he’d like you because he could tell you were trying.
ianto: theatre, specializing in acting and dramaturgy. no one believes he’s a theatre professor when they first meet him. he’s too quiet and reserved to be a theatre professor. but he actually loves being with people and telling stories, which is why he does theatre. he especially loves shakespeare. pretty easy grader, as long as you do the work and put effort into it (he can tell when you aren’t putting effort into your work), you’ll pass the class with an a or b.
gwen: criminal justice and political science. lots of rumors around the school she worked for mi5. she neither confirms or denies these rumors (mostly to mess with students… especially freshmen who don’t know any better). students who never had her classes are afraid of her. people who have taken her classes absolutely adore her but help to perpetuate the rumors because she ‘wants to keep her reputation’. she jokes a lot but can get really serious when she needs to. started teaching polisci and crju to try to encourage the next generation to make the world better a better place. she’s always at school and rhys is surprised she doesn’t sleep there. will basically be an unofficial counselor to any student who needs it.
general note: they all hang out together. no one quite understands how they all even met, because they teach in totally opposite parts of the school. they tell stories about each other in their classes. jack come into ianto’s theatre history class every once in a while to help teach. owen and tosh have huge debates about advancements artificial intelligence. gwen joins in to argue about the ethics of it. they all have drinks together after friday classes are over and have paper-grading parties on sundays, with a weekly rota for whose house it’s at.
