I would walk as I am walking now. As a man, you can’t know what I mean by what I say. You can’t know a woman’s vulnerability. You can’t know the sense of power that belongs to me now. — Merrick (Anne Rice)
But what I really meant was… are you happy?
existingcharactersdiehorribly:
Will comes in, season 1, and sees wine in Hannibal’s office.
“Oh you’ve been drinking,” he says.
“I had a glass of wine with my last appointment,” Hannibal says.
And Will assumes this means Hannibal was drinking with a patient, so Hannibal corrects him and says he was drinking with his unconventional psychiatrist. Hannibal was the patient.
Except… Hannibal drank that wine at Bedelia’s house.
Not at his office.
That big nerd wanted to enjoy a glass of wine with Will, so he gets out the bottle and sets it all up, and waits for Will to come in and notice it.
Then instead of being like, “Hey I thought we could have some wine like I do with my therapist.”
He’s all, “Ha ha I was drinking with my therapist right here and we left the wine out how silly and totally a coincidence but if you’d like to have a drink with me that would be ok and stuff haha Will.”
[BTS info] It’s actually the result of the fact that they cast Gillian so late for Bedelia, and then decided to make Hannibal come to her. They were originally trying to get Angela Landsbury, but when that didn’t happen, they managed to get Gillian and changed the character’s arc. [I also wonder if somebody didn’t just get it into their head to get that amazing location and pitched just HOW GOOD Gillian was gonna look sitting in front of that window.]
Sorbet, despite being aired as 107, was the third episode produced, so (I think) they’d already shot the Hannibal/Will scene, and despite the obvious continuity errors, they didn’t reshoot it to fit the fact that Hannibal had that glass at Bedelia’s house, or that Hannibal changes clothes between going to his appointment with Bedelia and then back to what he was wearing before Will arrives.
In the script for Sorbet, Bedelia comes to Hannibal’s office, and she says, “Yes, and when your hour is up I expect you to pour me a glass of wine, nevertheless I’ll be drinking it on this side of the veil.” Because Bedelia+wine is my OTP, I’m sad we didn’t get her demanding wine in her first appearance.
I do find it amusing that Hannibal already has a glass out and uncorked bottle in the ice bucket, and then opens a new bottle for Will.
Which goes with my headcanon that Hannibal is usually pretty buzzed because he would never let good wine go to waste when he could relocate it to his belly.
