Heard this cover for the first time today and it brought me to my KNEES. Every time I hear this song I think of how when Roberta Flack recorded her version her cat had just died and she sang it thinking about how much she loved and missed her cat:

“A lot of people ask me what I was thinking about while I was recording that song. Actually I was thinking about a little black cat that someone had given me, named Sancho Panza. I had just gotten back from being on the road for the first time, and I discovered that he had been killed.
