//Again, alien species that desperately in need of diversity. This time, Bajorans. (I’m not nearly as happy with this one.)

hmm… remember that Ro Laren wears her earring in left ear? Know who else wear it in the left ear? Yeah, pah-wraith cultists… Just saying. She’s kinda angry enough for that. So… if she had lived through elimination of Maquis (did Riker II did, I wonder?) and near the end of Dominion war did she felt the pull of freed pah-wraiths? I doubt she was between those poor souls who followed Dukat but otherwise?

I was curious about it once, and it turns out that the books have an explanation. The Ro Laren page on Memory Alpha says it:

Ro wears her Bajoran earring on her left ear rather than on her right ear like every other Bajoran seen on-screen, with the exception of those who worshipped the Pah-wraiths. In the aforementioned novels, it is explained that Ro did this because she did not believe in the Prophets, but still wished to acknowledge her heritage. It had the advantage of dissuading vedeks from pinching her left ear to read her pagh.

Which is actually pretty interesting, but I wish it was shown in the series tbh

O’Brien: Sir, have you ever served with any Bajoran women?
Sisko: No. Why?
O’Brien: I was just wondering, sir.
