i still have to sit down and write my thoughts about the season 1 of Picard, but overall I have to say that I’m really curious about what season 2 will be about, emotionally speaking, since, for me at least, season one was defined by Picard’s immense guilt and grief over Data’s death

and while I was expecting that Data’s death would have a big impact on Picard, I was surprised in this series to find how huge it was, that he has been mourning Data for like twenty years and Picard didn’t deal with it at all, since he is and always was emotionally constipated, and this set up the whole season - when he learns about Dahj and Soji, how could he say no and not help the daughter of the person he has been mourning and missing for so long? He couldn’t save Data, but maybe he could save his daughter, a little piece of him, his legacy of sorts, and that was Picard’s whole focus this season. Everything else was secondary, but not Soji . Finding her, saving her, making sure she understood she didn’t need to be the Destroyer, that was all that mattered for him - that was what he died for.

His grief over Data’s death, however, I think may be in the path of healing or acceptance now that he had a chance to say a proper goodbye to Data, to tell him that he loved him and he misses him. What is going to tick Picard now in this new season? His newfound android nature? Will this season be more about the new characters? Will Soji remain the focus of his priorities? i can’t wait to find out tbh

this is a very interesting episode - i think this season, overall, managed to hide very well the alarming fact that Picard has a terminal illness and will likely soon die, so it felt like a punch to being reminded of this at the beginning. The crew was so taken aback and Raffi was so sad :(

the synth planet… i still have to think it over what i think, but very cool concepts all around. Sutra is a pretty interesting character - a cunning, ruthless android and her whole look is amazing. if Soji and Dahj seems to be very much Data’s daughters, Sutra looks like she would be better suited being like. Lore’s daughter

another thing i got from this episode is that apparently Soji had another sister and brother, so… AU where Data lives, the Mars attack never happens so Data gets to be the proud dad of four daughters, one son and one spoiled orange cat

honestly the fact that Elnor knew Data had a cat because Picard would tell him stories about Data during the visits, the fact Will and Deanna’s daughter was born long after Data was dead but she still knew that he liked Sherlock Holmes, and to play violin, and that he ran super fast and about his desires to be more human-like, that Will, without a word, just by the general context but that just seeing the way Soji moved, that he could see that she was Data’s daughter….

they all loved Data so much :(

i saw the argument that the Picard show is Bad and full of plotholes because of the androids essentially being used as slaves up until the Mars incident, because Measure of a Man had granted the androids the rights of autonomy and is so dumb because like, the only decision reached in that episode was that Data was not in fact property of Stafleet, it was not about rights everywhere for androids.

it so much wasn’t about that, it was one of the main issues of The Offspring - Data was granted his autonomy, but they weren’t so willing to grant the same grace for Lal and the poor girl stressed so much she literally died because of that. Picard and Data were fighting tooth and nail to give Lal this same rights, but in fact for what I remember no conclusion was reached because she died. had she stayed alive, big chance was that she would have been kept by the Federation anyways

also the moral argument (Federation wouldn’t do that) is also dumb like, wasn’t there a Voyager episode where they were using sentient EMHs to essentially do slave labor? smh
