“I used to think my father was a hero. That even when he did something bad, he had a good reason.”
Benny Russell Talks Truth About Racism in 1950′s America in Far Beyond The Stars (½)
Original Dialogue:
BENNY: No, it’s about my story, isn’t it? That’s what this is all about. He didn’t want to publish my story and we all know why. Because my hero is a coloured man.
PABST: Hey! This magazine belongs to Mister Stone. If he doesn’t want to publish this month, we don’t publish this month. End of story.
BENNY: That doesn’t make it right and you know it.
its always nice when actors say its ok to interpret the character they play as lgbt but ds9 actors are on some galaxy brain shit. are they so devoted to their character being butch that they cut their costume wig into a dyke haircut (which couldn’t be replaced and un-dyked due to zero budget) and fight non-stage makeup every step of the way? did they kiss each other on the lips on film? did they literally write a PLAY with their same gender costar shipping their characters together? i cant get over that last one. if you didnt write at least 30 pages of real irl unpaid literature about your character being in gay love you’re not a real ally
Benjamin Sisko & Julian Bashir Talk About The Political Climate of the Early 2020′s in Past Tense, Part I
Original Dialogue:
SISKO: Don’t be so sure. One of the main complaints against the Sanctuary Districts was overcrowding. It got to the point where they didn’t care how many people were in here. They just wanted to keep them out of sight.
BASHIR: And once they were out of sight, what then? I mean, look at this man. There’s no need for that man to live like that. With the right medication, he could lead a full and normal life.
SISKO: Maybe in our time.
BASHIR: Not just in our time. There are any number of effective treatments for schizophrenia, even in this day and age. They could cure that man now, today, if they gave a damn.
SISKO: It’s not that they don’t give a damn, Doctor. It’s that they’ve given up. The social problems they face seem too enormous to deal with.
BASHIR: That only makes things worse. Causing people to suffer because you hate them is terrible, but causing people to suffer because you have forgotten how to care? That’s really hard to understand.
SISKO: They’ll remember. It’ll take some time and it won’t be easy, but eventually people in this century will remember how to care.
me, watching DS9 get attacked or nearly exploded or possessed by demon ghosts every week, its inhabitants evacuated or starving or sick: wow… would love to live here. the Promenade - so full of life, just wanna take a walk there, buy a jumja stick. Go back to my quarters on the habitat ring with the oval windows looking out into space, my keyboards all backlit… the aesthetic of it all.
Kira Nerys Teaches Resistance in When It Rains…
Original Dialogue:
KIRA: Believe me, I understand how you feel. During the Occupation, I didn’t want to attack any facility that had a Bajoran working in it. But I did it. Because they were collaborators. They were working with the enemy.
RUSOT: We’re not Bajorans. We don’t kill our own.
KIRA: Well then you might as well just give up right now. Because the minute that the Dominion realises that you will not attack your own people, they will station a Cardassian at every base they have.
ODO: She’s right. The Founders won’t hesitate to play your own people against you.
KIRA: Anyone who’s not fighting with you, is fighting against you.
