AnonymousHey there! Not sure if you've already talked about this, but I was wondering what you think about Lestat's singing voice? I personally always thought of him as having an almost Bowie sounding voice but with the energy and range of Brendon Urie from Panic at the disco. Idk if you've heard the song Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! but that song is kinda how I think Lestat would sound- I think he'd have a kick ass falsetto voice. Also Ave Cesaria by Stromae is a good example in terms of French music
Hello hello~~~ This post got very long! It’s a big question!
I guess I haven’t talked about Lestat’s singing voice bc I can’t find it, but YES, #headcanon accepted, Lestat would have a kick ass falsetto voice!
I just drafted this post and it’s too long, so much more can be written and more vids could have been featured, but I’ve spen
The short answer: As with Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is music in the ear of the beholder, and your idea of Lestat’s voice is as valid as anyone else’s. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I’m gonna offer a few responses on this, from AR, from canon, from a mutual VC fan friend of mine, and then respond to your suggestions. I had to make a cut bc the post was getting long.
SO, AR has said, on several occasions, that Bon Jovi was a big influence on Prince Lestat. She even dedicated Prince Lestat to Bon Jovi (as one of her muses). [X]
I also seem to recall Lestat mentioning a love for Bruce Springsteen in canon, but that might have been fanon. In QOTD, Baby Jenks says Lestat sings like the Boss:
Baby Jenks did love the Vampire Lestat’s music,… Yes sir, that was the one she loved… It wasn’t the words that got to her, it was the way he sang it, groaning like Bruce Springsteen into the mike and making it just break your heart.
I’m on Fire, the lyrics and the way he sings it, seem very Lestatuesque to me. Try Dancing in the Dark, also very Lestatuesque to me…
What do you think Lestat’s band would sound like now?
Well, it always sounded to me like Jim Morrison. That was the band I based it on — Jim Morrison’s voice, physical beauty, and the sound of that band in a song like “L.A. Woman.” That’s how I imagined Lestat’s band sounding. I don’t know a lot about rock music right at this moment; I haven’t listened to a stadium band in a while. I don’t know the latest stuff. I really don’t know. The main thing in emphasizing Morrison is that I’m emphasizing hard rock. It’s really acid rock. It’s not lightweight rock music and there has to be a good voice at the helm. Morrison had an exceptionally good voice for a rock singer. But modernizing it? Sure, whatever. Bring it on.
new fan theory generated with @calamitylena: cardassians are nocturnal.
evidence for this is actually kind of overwhelming:
cardassians constantly complain about how bright certain locations are (garak in the wire immediately comes to mind). based on occupation era flashbacks (the collaborator, etc.) we know ds9 used to be kept a lot darker when it was run by cardassians, which supports the theory that, although they universally have pretty sharp eyes, cardassians have better night vision than day vision.
almost every time we see cardassia (pre-dominion war), the sky is red/orange or dark, which suggests that cardassians wake up at twilight and are active during the night.
cardassians take pleasure from sunbathing, especially from sleeping in the sun, or laying on heated rocks, which would make sense if they’re usually asleep during the peak of the day.
not to mention, cardassia prime is a desert hellscape where temperatures can reach well over 120 degrees fahrenheit. although cardassians can easily withstand that kind of heat (and even flourish in it, as proven by dukat’s behavior on dozaria in indiscretion), it would make sense for them to rest during the hottest parts of the day to avoid heatstroke.
also, this makes for really fun worldbuilding opportunities like:
cardassian cities that are especially beautiful/active in the early hours of the morning, and are designed to be viewed and used when the world is dark. imagine how beautiful cityscapes must be.
cardassians getting super cranky when they’re asked to prescribe to diurnal timetables. like… “i have to wake up at 8am? in the morning? that’s usually when i’m going to SLEEP! ugh diurnals are the worst”
cardassians being taken out to watch the sunrise on new year’s and literally hissing as it comes over the horizon like they’re gonna scare it back to the other side of the planet
cardassians dressing in colors/fabrics designed to be especially appealing by the light of streetlamps, or the moon
cardassians referring to diurnal species as “daywalkers”
Okay, can we talk about how amazing the interaction between Bashir and Data was? First of all, besides the adorable geek-out Bashir does, he calls Data a synthetic life-form rather than an android or robot or or any of those other dehumanizing things people seem to call Data.
And when he asks about if Data’s hair grows, and how he breathes and has a pulse, and Data’s all, “Most people are interested in my extraordinary abilities; how fast I can compute; my memory capacity; how long I will live. No one has ever asked me if my hair will grow, or noticed that I can breathe.” And that smirk Julian has. You know he’s just thinking, “Well, considering I can probably compute almost as well as you, and my memory capacity is likely close to the same as yours, and while I may not live forever, I probably have a longer life span than the average human, so… yeah, the more mundane things about you are what interests me.” but he can’t say that, of course, so he says what he does in the show instead.
I want them to be friends. I imagine they become ‘pen pals’ and when Julian’s secret is revealed, Data puts the pieces together and asks him about their first interaction. This will be a thing.
kitkat-barHAPPY HEADCANON okay Bashir tries so hard to be smooth and cool and sexy ALL THE TIME when he and Garak first get together, and it goes perfectly right up until Garak finds Kukalaka. Bashir is just 300% done and shoves the bear away and is like LOL JUST FORGET ABOUT IT DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT HA HA HA IT'S JUST AN OLD TOY MY MUM SENT IT TO ME WHO WOULD KEEP A CHILDHOOD TOY flashforward three weeks later and bashir finds three neatly tailored new outfits for the bear, including a mini medical
Grilka and Sirella become part of the Klingon High Council, and negotiate a trade agreement with Ishka, who appoints Pel as her liaison. At first this goes badly, because Pel challenges Grilka to a fight over Quark, but Grilka is so impressed by Tiny Ferengi Lady’s courage, and Pel is so taken aback but how much respect Grilka shows her, that they become really good friends.
They agree to both marry Quark on a timeshare basis, after which they inform him of their decision. He’s like ‘okay, but Odo has to give me away.’
The Ferengi probably already have time-share marriage contracts on their law books.
Pff, and Odo is SOOOO uncomfortable, but secretly proud to be asked.
And honestly? Any excuse to get out of the Great Link. It was WONDERFUL to be part of the whole and have that sense of belonging… for about a week. After which his family really began to get on his nerves. His best enemy’s wedding is a perfect pretext.
The Great Link would be a drag after awhile. It must be like an endless holiday dinner with all your most bigoted great-aunts and uncles. And Odo keeps getting told off for telling the cousins about his adventures with the Solids, and making them want to go off and have adventures too, but when the great-aunts and uncles tell him off he just does whatever the mindlink equivalent of “HMNF!” is, and keeps on. Three cousins go with him to the wedding and cause a stir with the Ferengi guests by pretending to be bricks of gold-pressed latinum.
And he and Kira have a delighted reunion. With sparkles.
If I was a student at Hogwarts I’d use Howlers to send nice messages to people.
So you’d be sitting there in the Great Hall eating breakfast when an owl drops a Howler in front of you. You, and everyone else on your table, just stares at it as it trembles, explodes open, shrieks I WANT TO TOUCH YOUR SWEET BUTT and then dissolves into flames.
You know, I have a terrible memory, so I don’t remember if it was ever addressed, but let me say it anyway.
One thing in Star Trek that is almost never mentioned is the evolution of art - any art, or more specific, Human art.
I mean - art always evolves; the methods and the technology changes the way the art is done, and in consequence, the way that it’s perceived by the public and its meaning.
So, it’s my personal headcanon that the Holograms revolutioned the cinema.
The movie makers saw in the holodecks a great oportunity to change the way that cinema was done.
We have the holo novels, where people can see a story and make part of it and interact with the characters; a holo movie would be slightly different. Instead of the story changing as you interact with the characters, the story is exactly the same every time, but the public can BE in the movie when they want. The characters wouldn’t see and wouldn’t talk with you, but you could see the story from an inside point of view, because you would be literally there with them.
The new generations almost always prefer the holo novels, because they like to interact with the story, but in occasion, there are people that would rather the continuity of a holo movie.
