Generally speaking, I love Barclay so much because the guy is literally my representation if I lived in the Star Trek universe, but I really wish they hadn’t put romantic overtones with Deanna’s hologram in ‘Hollow Pursuits’. It was unnecessarily creepy - really, really unnecessarily
Geordi: “He’s late And nervous. Nobody wants to be around him!”
Guinan: “If I knew nobody wanted to be around me I’d probably be late and nervous too.”
Geordi: “That’s not the point!”
Guinan: “Are you sure?”
TNG was not supposed to make me feel feelings.
BARCLAY: Being afraid, all the time… of forgetting somebody’s name. Not knowing what to do with your hands. I mean, I am the guy who writes down things to remember to say when there’s a party. And then when he gets there, he winds up alone in the corner trying to look comfortable examining a potted plant.
GEORDI: You’re just SHY, Barclay.
BARCLAY: “Just shy”… Sounds like nothing serious, doesn’t it. You can’t know.
Barclay had problems, he wasn’t perfect; he was someone that the fans I think could identify with. He had a good heart, but he didn’t quite fit in all of the time, and I think it brought a unique perspective for the show and for fans. It was a great idea. They finally put an ordinary person on the bridge, and it struck a chord. Barclay sees things that he is not a part of and desperately wants to be there.
- Guinan, that’s not the point.
- Are you sure?
