“And your friend, Ezri,” her mother said. “Is she well?”
“She’s not my ‘friend,’ Mother, she’s my wife.”(Mirror Universe novel, Saturn’s Children)

“At first, we made Terry up to look like the no-spot Trill character from TNG, with the forehead appliance. Rick Berman saw it and immediately wanted it changed. He wanted Terry’s extreme good looks to be emphasized, not impinged upon by the makeup. That’s why he wanted a new design. Rick kept modifying the original TNG design to the point where there was nothing left for them to modify. Finally, Rick remembered the very intriguing TNG episode ‘The Perfect Mate’, with Famke Janssen as Kamala, a mesomorph who had spots running down the sides of her face. Famke was also one of the very early considerations for the Jadzia Dax role. Rick suggested, “Why don’t we try to do something very different with Terry and give her the spots we had on Famke?” It was up to me to figure out a way to do the spots so that they’d show but not get in the way of Terry’s looks.”
