While you were sitting in the backseat smoking a cigarette you thought was going to be your last, I was falling deep, deeply in love with you and I never told you until just now.

Oh, Angie, don’t you weep, all your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie, Angie, ain’t it time we said good-bye?
Do you remember that melody? Where it all started.

Oh my god so beautiful
This is the eighth track off seminal L.A. punk band The Gun Club’s first full-length LP entitled “Fire of Love”. This track has become a fast favorite of mine and is evocative of the roots music-based “psychobilly” sound of the band’s earlier days. An explosive mixture of rollicking rockabilly inflected rhythms, replete with tawdry tales of melancholic heartbreak, sex, murder and mysticism creates an atmospheric landscape that could be best described as Southern Gothic. The Gun Club was and will always be a hard act to follow.
