i still have to sit down and write my thoughts about the season 1 of Picard, but overall I have to say that I’m really curious about what season 2 will be about, emotionally speaking, since, for me at least, season one was defined by Picard’s immense guilt and grief over Data’s death
and while I was expecting that Data’s death would have a big impact on Picard, I was surprised in this series to find how huge it was, that he has been mourning Data for like twenty years and Picard didn’t deal with it at all, since he is and always was emotionally constipated, and this set up the whole season - when he learns about Dahj and Soji, how could he say no and not help the daughter of the person he has been mourning and missing for so long? He couldn’t save Data, but maybe he could save his daughter, a little piece of him, his legacy of sorts, and that was Picard’s whole focus this season. Everything else was secondary, but not Soji . Finding her, saving her, making sure she understood she didn’t need to be the Destroyer, that was all that mattered for him - that was what he died for.
His grief over Data’s death, however, I think may be in the path of healing or acceptance now that he had a chance to say a proper goodbye to Data, to tell him that he loved him and he misses him. What is going to tick Picard now in this new season? His newfound android nature? Will this season be more about the new characters? Will Soji remain the focus of his priorities? i can’t wait to find out tbh
