what hurts the most is seeing ppl like jair bolsonaro - yes, that one from the ellen page doc - dedicating his impeachment vote to someone who tortured more than 200 people in the brazilian military dictatorship.
just to give some context, dilma - our president - was 19 when she was first arrested by the dictatorship and she stayed in jail for 3 years, where she was beaten, tortured and raped a thousand times. Even in this situation, she never (NEVER) gave the militaries any names of her friends involved in the anti-dictatorship movement. She was my age when she got out of prison, she was a child, braver than many of the men voting against her yesterday.
Yesterday, Jair Bolsonaro congratulated colonel Ustra, the only convicted torturer from the brazilian military dictatorship and known for torturing women by putting mouses and cockroaches inside their vaginas, for his “amazing work” and for what he called being “dilma’s terror”. I don’t know if anyone really realize how cruel this is. Dilma lost her youth fighting against the millitaries, one of them was Ustra himself.
You have no idea how it feels to know brazilian history and how fragil and young our democracy is and see someone who fought so much against the dictatorship being kicked out of politics by people such as Bolsonaro and others that are some of the worst people you will ever met.
i’m involved w politics in brazil and in 2014, when dilma was elected, i voted for her, i campaigned for her, and she won. she got 54 millions votes and we tought this was over, that this time we had won the war… because we lived in a democracy afterall. but yesterday i learned that that’s not true. They (the rich and the white people of brazil) don’t understand what a democracy is, they don’t care. They couldn’t take the power in legal ways, so they’re just gonna take it out of our hands.
I know many countries are talking about this as “the president x the people” and how we all want dilma out. But that’s not true, we are completely split. brazil has a lot of serious social issues and this is showing it more than ever. dilma’s base voters are undeniably poor people, and the ones in the senate and in the congress are the richest. They’re taking her out because they want to, not because she commited a crime. There are a lot of people against her impeachment right now, and specially, there are 54 million ppl who voted for her a year and a half ago that are having all their hopes and dreams killed.
FUCK BOLSONARO.
He is literally the most toxic politician/public figure in Brazil nowadays. Fucking misogynist/racist/homophobic piece of shit. He’s all about protecting the “traditional family” while bashing gays, disrespecting women and such.
And the worst part is: a lot of people share his ideals, he was the third most voted federal deputy in Brazil.ps #1: He served during the military dictatorship in Brazil (and not only is proud of it but also defends the military government)
ps #2: look at this fucker “I would not rape you. You don’t merit that.”
