[I’m incredibly sad that Jadzia died, but I can’t bring myself to wish it hadn’t happened. Ezri was one of my favorite parts of season 7, and if Jadzia hadn’t died we never would have met her. That being said Terry Farrell really got cheated out of a great role. And I will never forgive the producers for not including her in the ending montage.]

Except that they could have just done this same quirky, unconfident, off balance character without it having to be Dax.

Promote Jadzia to captain, realistic due to the war and their losses. She’s part of the 9th fleet which is home based at DS9, but she’s gone for a few episodes at a time.

Meanwhile a quirky new character named Ezri, a new counselor, is brought in also due to the war. Maybe she’s Trill, maybe Bajoran but Starfleet (which I’d do because only having one Bajoran on the show was a mistake.) She has all the same stories, minus awkward Worf and best friend Ben. But in their place she’s a friend for Jake or something, giving him more screen time.

You’d have to adjust “Field of Fire” to remove the Joran stuff, but you could replace it with her consulting with maybe a relative, her father? Who was a killer, but by virtue of killing Cardassians during the occupation, he got away with it until he couldn’t control himself after the withdrawal.

“Prodigal Daughter” could be virtually unchanged. The final chapter rescue of Worf plot would be a hiccup, but otherwise you’d have nothing significant to delete from the character by making get a Bajoran Starfleet Counselor rather than new Dax.

And you’d have Jadzia popping in. She’d show up in fleet battles. Her and worf might have relationship issues with her promotion, not resentment but strain of distance. Of knowing the dangerous classified missions she’s on by his post but not being able to do anything. You’d have the dynamic change of her being equal to Sisko and the evolution of the relationship. You’d have Bashir deal with his feelings and maybe he moves on to Ezri without it being creepy!

In the end Jadzia didn’t need to die and Ezri didn’t need to be Dax to have her be the same character. That’s the shame.

[I wish Kes didn’t have to leave the same time 7/9 came on board. Kes was a great friend for The Doctor when he was finding out who he was - the way she was always encouraging him to try new things and how she insisted people treat him like an actual person. I think it would have been awesome for 7/9 to have someone who was willing to give her a chance, instead of being afraid of her and treating her like a threat or the enemy.]

[Growing up I loved ST: Voyager, but now that I’m an adult and I understand the themes of DS9 more, I think DS9 deals with pretty much everything better. DS9 also took a lot more risks, tried new things, and had way more interesting characters than Voyager. ]

tagged as: the thing is that VOY had amazing characters and a really good concept;  but they were stuck in the TNG model and VOY's characters weren't made to fit into that model;  and in DS9 it was virtually impossible to use the same TNG model all the time;  so DS9 had the chance to fully blossom in its potential - the chance that voyager never had;  it's sad really;  DS9 is the best trek series for me;  but voyager had such a good oportunity to be amazing;  we could have had it all;

[I think Voyager had a lot of potential as a story and I’m forever disappointed that it never lived up to that potential.]

[I hated when Kes left Voyager. I feel like they got rid of her just so they could have Seven of Nine.]

Story: So the past week or so I’ve been thinking of doing a ds9 rewrite of sorts…Basically it’s just me shouting at Lemon about all of the things I WISH happened in ds9.

The biggest and most significant change would have been unjoined trill Ensign Ezri Tigan was reassigned from her position on the USS Destiny to be counselor on Deep Space Nine somewhere mid-season 5. Even though she had not quite yet completed her training (six months to go), Starfleet deemed her prepared enough to handle the individuals on DS9. And seeing how they were in the middle of a war, and DS9 is on the front lines- the mental health of everyone on board is of high importance and a counselor was desperately needed there.

Ensign Ezri Tigan finds out that DS9 has another trill, joined, Dax at that- and is surprised when Jadzia comes up to her wanting to be friends with this newcomer. Over the next year and a half the station’s two trills, despite their differences, they end up becoming almost inseparable…practically siblings in every way but blood
